I introduce myself.......

Kaayla Fox—Artist’s Statement
I create in order to know what is in my
heart—to reveal the hidden treasures and appreciate the
beauty. When I incorporate crop circle images, or use metal,
gemstones, and glass beads, I feel my relationship to the
Earth and all that is. This is my springboard for
communication and connection with others.
Kaayla has been a resident of the Sedona Area
since 2002. Her first trip to Sedona in 1995 was like a
journey back home even though she returned to the Bay Area in
1997 for some important steps to unfold. While there, she
studied fine jewelry making at the Revere Academy of Jewelry
Arts in San Francisco. Her well rounded curriculum included
fabrication, stone setting, gem identification, wax carving,
casting, finishing, and mold making. She was recognized by
her instructors as having an eye and appreciation for detail.
Long Distance credited classes with the Gemological Institute
of America (GIA) broadened her scope of understanding of the
jewelry industry, colored stones, and diamonds. She continued
to practice her skills by taking Adult Ed jewelry and lapidary
classes and a four month apprenticeship at 14 Karats a fine
jewelry store in Berkeley, rounded out her experience in
‘behind the scene’ jewelry making.
Kaayla undertook the commitment of mentorship
with Bob Winston, and elderly designer of the most unusual
jewelry art as well as an extraordinary inventor and
educator. Along with being the inventor of Win-Ox, a well
known blackening agent, he was accredited with bringing the
ancient lost wax casting back into practical use in the
jewelry industry as early as the 1940’s. Being a recognized
forerunner in his techniques he was widely sot after as a
teacher both in Arizona and California.
Kaayla gained his respect because she did not
try to copy him as many had tried, but always demonstrated her
own unique style while learning everything possible from the
master. Even though she had used her artistic talents in many
ways, his encouragement to focus on jewelry design realigned
her life direction.
It was through the process of combining her
technical abilities in jewelry, drafting, and design with her
spiritual awareness and sensitivity, that she evolved a line
of fine jewelry and medallions called LightCircles™
representing the original crop circle designs, her main focus
since 2000. In contrast to the precise geometric forms of the
crop circles, Kaayla also expresses through her “Earth Spirit
Designs” line of jewelry, an organic sense of color, texture
and design using gemstones, beads and a variety of metal
techniques.
Her jewelry can now be found in stores
throughout the Verde Valley/Sedona area, Scottsdale, and is
shown across the country, and in England, Japan, and
Australia.
